The Smart Managed PoE Powered 5-port Gigabit  Switch (DGS-1100-05PD) is a unique 5-port switch that supports Power over Ethernet, simplifying deployments with IP cameras, VoIP phones, wireless access points (APs), and other standards-compliant powered devices. The switch also has the ability to propagate PoE power further downstream to PDs connected to its ports 1 and 2.

Smart Managed PoE Powered 5-Port Gigabit Switch (DGS-1100-05PD) Key Features:

  • Gigabit Speeds – 5 x 10/100/1000 ports
  • Powered by PoE – Also supports PoE pass-through
  • Built to Last – Metal desktop housing
  • Easy to Manage – Web GUI interface
  • Essential L2 Switching Features – VLAN, QoS, IGMP Snooping and more
  • Security Functions – Static Mac, Storm Control and more

There is no AC/DC power adapter in the DGS-1100-05PD box. The switch must be powered (through port 5) by a PoE switch or injector located upstream. The amount of power available to PDs is dependent on the PoE source (802.3af or 802.3at) and the PD’s PoE Classification.

PoE Classification

The DGS-1100-05PD switch can provide PoE power to downstream powered devices using ports 1 and 2. When using this functionality, it is highly recommend that this switch be powered via an 802.3at switch or injector (a.k.a. PoE+). When a powered device (IP camera, for example) is connected to ports 1 and/or 2, the DGS-1100-05PD will look at the camera’s classification. If a camera classifies itself, it’s telling the switch the maximum amount of power that the switch should reserve for it. If a camera fails to classify itself, it defaults to Class 0 and the switch assumes it needs full 15 watts of power. Understanding the classification of the powered device is essential for correctly powering your device.
